Solo
performances proliferate in Edinburgh. Among the best I saw are Fringe veterans
Linda Marlowe and David Benson, plus American newcomer here, Ann Randolph
(all at the Assembly Rooms), with variously personal journeys through, respectively,
a collage of Tennessee Williams characters, conspiracy theories, and homelessness.
But the strangest yet most compelling of all is that of Bradford Louryk, who brings America’s first transsexual back to life in Christine Jorgensen Reveals. Brilliantly recreating one of Jorgensen’s many recorded interviews by lip-synching to her actual voice, this was a fringe discovery.
